Heartbeat City
A Fan Site about The Cars

Welcome... to the home of one of the earliest sites devoted to the 80's new wave band, The Cars! Heartbeat City has been providing fans with information on their favorite band since 1996...enjoy!
-Kim & Alan

The Cars "You Might Think". . . "Shake It Up". . ."Tonight She Comes". . .these are just a few of the now-classic songs that come to mind when you think of the Cars. But music is just the beginning when it comes to the memories of what the Cars gave to the early MTV era that expanded the boundaries of popular music of their time. But it's almost impossible to place The Cars into just one category of music. In write-up after write-up, the one thing that had always been evident is that The Cars were known for the uniqueness of their sound as well as their lyrics, image, and videos. That inability to pinpoint their style is just one of the qualities that made them such a captivating icon of the 80's as Ric Ocasek, Benjamin Orr, Elliot Easton, Greg Hawkes, and David Robinson went down in history.

Driving on the music scene in 1978, no one could match the Cars from fashion to concerts to video art as the years went on. Helping to define the meaning of new wave in both audio and video, the Cars' unique sound has been part of our music history for the past 20 years. But this site should not only focus on the past. The break-up of the Cars in 1988 was not the end as many of the band members continue to pursue solo careers in music in the forms of performance, production, and more. This web site tells a brief summary of the history of The Cars from beginning to end and beyond. Not only can you look up all your favorite songs, albums and videos, but you'll also learn about each member's individual backgrounds, the early pre-Cars bands, and what each of the Cars' members have been up to on their own during and after the group's run.

The 1980's was a great decade for music, and even now, like so many other artists, the Cars' music is still listened to and remembered by fans who not only reminisce but look ahead to the future, following the surviving members' brief 2011 reunion.
