It's a Birthday Party!

It's a Birthday Party!
This insert from Year 8 featured a collection of brand new ponies, including the Twice As Fancy Baby Ponies and the Sweet Scoops Pony and Pendant Pair, who were only available through this offer. Others included the first appearance of the Birthday Baby Ponies and Coat 'n Tails, in a major offer, only now he was known as Tux 'n Tails.

Birthday Baby Ponies

Birthday Baby Ponies

The Birthday Baby Ponies got off to a strange start when they were first offered. They were originally portrayed in inserts as chubby baby boy ponies. But they were actually girls (Earth ponies), and come in the colors and styles as shown here, and also in the Year 9 "A Day at the Beach" insert. Each pony came with special party accessories (similar to those from the Party Gift Pack) to match their names, and their symbols are balloon animals and the phrase "Happy Birthday!" They also each came with a hair ribbon.

Baby Sugarcake is yellow with curly pink & blue hair, and blue eyes. Her balloon animal has a long neck and is pink. She came with a slice of pink cake (w/white decorations and yellow candle) on a blue plate and a purple party favor (not shown). Her ribbon is pink.
Baby Gametime is pink with curly yellow and pink hair, and blue eyes. Her balloon animal symbol is blue, with a long body. She came with a Pin-the-Tail-on-the-Pony game (with a picture of Party Time), two pink tails (one shown), and a blue & white striped blindfold. Her ribbon is aqua.

Sweet Scoops Pony and Pendant Pair

Sweet Scoops pony
Sweet Scoops charm

Of all the My Little Pony charms, none of them were ever made to resemble actual ponies. However, Sweet Scoops is a special pony (below) who comes with a charm that looks just like her. The Sweet Scoops charm (right) goes on a soft, pink string, making it a pendent for you to wear. Like the Year 6 Mommy Charms, Sweet Scoops' flowers are not painted. Sweet Scoops pony came with a white hair ribbon.
Both pony and charm have a purple body, dark pink hair, and pink eyes. They both have a vanilla ice cream cone symbol (pink cone, white top, pink sprinkles).

Twice As Fancy Baby Ponies

In Year 5, the first set of Twice As Fancy Ponies was introduced. In Year 8, each pony was given a baby, creating a set of six Twice As Fancy Baby Ponies. They all came in the same colors and had the same symbols as their mothers, including the same tiny interpretation of the symbol on their forehead or cheek. However, some of the babies were a of different species of pony than their mother, noted below. Other differences included slightly different eye, hair, and symbol colors. Some of them also had a first tooth. Each pony came with a hair ribbon.

Twice As Fancy Baby Ponies

Baby Milky Way is a pink pegasus instead of a unicorn like her mother, however, she still has a blue streak in her white mane. She has deep, dark purple eyes (darker than mom's) and a first tooth. She has shiny (not glittery) silver stars as her symbol, including three under her left eye (her mother's are on the right). Her ribbon is purple.

Baby Sweet Tooth is a unicorn, while her mother is an Earth Pony. She is cerulean blue (bluer than mom) with curly dark pink hair, and lavender eyes (lighter than mom's). Her symbol is dark blue (not purple) and dark pink (w/white sticks), with two under her left eye, like her mother. Her ribbon is light pink.

Baby Sugarberry (Earth pony, like mom) is white, with pale red hair (much lighter than mom's), and purple eyes (mom's are blue!). She has a first tooth and her symbol is red strawberries w/green (darker than mom's) vines, with one berry above her nose, like her mother. Her ribbon is light yellow-green.

Twice As Fancy Baby Ponies

Baby Up, Up, and Away is a unicorn even though her mother is an Earth Pony. She is dark pink with curly light pink hair and dark blue eyes (mom's are lighter). She has green & yellow balloons as her symbol, with a yellow one under her right eye (mom's little balloon is green). Her her ribbon is yellow.

Baby Love Melody (Earth pony, like mom) is purple with pink hair, and pinkish-purple eyes (lighter than mom's). She has pink hearts (darker than mom's), strung together with white ribbon's, including two strung hearts under her right eye (just like mom). She has a first tooth and came with a pale pink ribbon.

Baby Dancing Butterflies (pegasus, like mom) is yellow with yellow hair and blue eyes. Her symbol is pink & blue butterflies (alternating colors), with a pink w/blue butterfly above her nose (just like mom). She has a first tooth and came with a cornflower blue ribbon.

Goldilocks

Goldilocks
Goldilocks
Goldilocks (Earth Pony) is a enchanting as the fairy tale she is named after. She has a thin, pink body and long legs, in a Sweetheart Sister mold. Her symbol is a bear sitting next to a bowl of porridge (brown outlined & yellow). Goldilocks Pony has perfectly curly hair; four ringlets in both her mane and tail in alternating yellow and gold. She has blue eyes and came with a purple star brush (see PonyCombs page) and bright blue ribbon. Goldilocks was only available in Year 8 and in an offer all her own. The back of the mail order was an advertisement for My Little Playsets that were currently being sold in stores (1990; Year 8), including the Petite Ponies Prancing Pretty Carousel, Petite Ponies Royal Pony Palace, and the She was also the only mail order pony who was advertised on television, in a spot at the end of other Year 8 My Little Pony commercials.
Goldilocks was one of two ponies named after fairy tales. SEE ALSO: Rapunzel

A Day at the Beach

A Day at the Beach
In other beach-themed offer, this last insert found in Year 9 My Little Pony packages featured new ponies as well as some reissued, recently offered ponies. Another fairy tail pony, Rapunzel, was introduced, along with the Mommy and Baby Set. Baby Sugarcake and Baby Gametime (not called Birthday Baby Ponies in this offer) were available again, this time shown photographed in their actual form. The Baby Pearlized Ponies were also part of this offer.

Mommy & Baby Pony

Mommy and Baby Pony

Mommy and Baby Pony (Earth ponies) were just what their name said - a mother pony and and her baby. They have the same colors, magenta bodies with curly pink hair, and light blue eyes. Mommy's symbol is a cat and her kitten (white, pink-outlined, wearing aqua clothing) beneath three pink hearts. Baby has fancy pants with a pattern of (pink-outlined) kittens (wearing aqua diapers) and pink hearts on her white diaper. The set came with a yellow playpen, white bottle, and a mint green duck comb (see PonyCombs page). Mommy and Baby were also were available through a later (mail only) offer.

Rapunzel

Rapunzel

Rapunzel (Earth pony), like the fairy tale character she is named after is known for her long, glamorous hair. She has a pink body, periwinkle eyes, and her symbol is a picture of Rapunzel looking out the window of a tower (pink-outlined, yellow braids, white face). Rapunzel's hair is yellow and pink curls with lots of red tinsel and even a braid in her mane (yellow rubber band can dry and crack over time). To keep her hair looking beautiful, Rapunzel came with a purple dots comb (see PonyCombs page), a pinkish-purple hair ribbon, and two "I LUV YOU" barrettes - one turquoise and one dark pink. Rapunzel was the second of two ponies named for fairy tales. She was also available in a later Year 9 offer. SEE ALSO: Goldilocks.

Adventure Cruise

Adventure Cruise
An offer sent to My Little Pony collectors in the mail in Year 9, the Adventure Cruise offered several previously issued ponies, some for the last time. For those still needed to catch up, a bonus of two woven friendship bracelets (a trend in the late 80's) were free with orders of $25 or more. This was the last chance for the set of Baby Pearlized Ponies as well as Li'l Cupcake & Li'l Sweetcake (not called Baby Sister Ponies here). Baby Cuddles (with Beddy-Bye Eyes) and the Baby Buggy was finally retired with this offer. Also available were Tux 'n Tails and Satin 'n Lace (only sold as a set) and the set of five Playset Ponies.

Ponyland Press

Ponyland Press

Ponyland Press was the last My Little Pony offer, and only send to collectors in the mail. It was done on the design of a newspaper with each pony (ponies) or accessory featured in a short article. It was the last chance to add previously offered ponies to you collection, including the Pretty Mane Ponies, Rapunzel, the Playset Ponies, Rainbow Ponies Parasol and Confetti, Mommy and Baby Pony, Satin 'n Lace and Coat 'n Tails (sold only as a set), and the Baby Bonnet School of Dance (no pony included).
The offer actually was half My Little Pony and half G.I. Joe. When flipped upside down, you could also order items from the G.I. Joe Bugle.

Miscellaneous MLP Offers

Some ponies were not sold through traditional mail offers, which either came as inserts in My Little Pony packages or send to collectors in the mail, after previous orders were placed. The ponies featured below include catalog exclusives, cereal premiums, fast food prizes, and non-U.S. offers, from the late 1980's and early 1990's.

Megan's Place

Megan's Place

Megan's Place is also a reproduction of the Show Stable. But this time, it belongs to Megan, rather than just to the Little Ponies. This was probably done because in the first My Little Pony TV special, Megan's stable looked a lot like the Show Stable. Megan's Place was a Sears inclusive, being featured only in their catalogs and the SEARS logo is printed on the box. This playset is dated 1985, making it an early item, with the the original lettering on the My Little Pony logo above the door. And under the long, it says "Megan's Place." The building and furniture are also different colors. The building is pale pink with a white roof and a blue base. The flags are all pink with white hearts and the pony weather vane is turquoise. Inside, the three trophy cups turquoise (aqua) and the three award ribbons are pink. Some accessories include a pink bed w/white headboard, (one or two) pink A-style jumps, six white fences, pink adjustable jump w/turquoise pole, two white troughs, two white window shelves, and a pink ribbon rack (attached to back door). Other accessories include a ?pink blanket, bridle, saddle, and two ribbons, and turquoise (aqua) brush. The interior is layed out differently from the Show Stable, looking more like a house. Decals include: the inside back door is like Megan's closet (it has a picture-sticker of a couple of dresses), a bookshelf, a picture of Megan & Sundance, a dresser with mirror above and a little kitchen. The rug stickers (circular & rectangular) are yellow with red hearts & green ?leaves. These and colors of actual accessories may vary from those describes and/or shown.
It has been confirmed that both Megan and Sundance came with the playset, however, this may have only been the case in Canada. In other countries where Megan's Place was sold, it is uncertain whether or not Megan was included, and it has so far been confirmed that Sundance was not included. A white dog named Snowball (white with pink ears, eyes, nose, and light pink tongue) may have also been included. It is also rumored that Megan's pony, T.J. was also produced, but it's unknown whether or not he actually exits or was sold with this playset. It has been confirmed that the Canadian version did not include Megan, Sundance, or T.J., but did come with Snowball.

*I am looking for Megan's Place (preferably with accessories), however, it is not yet listed on my Want List. If you have this playset and would like to sell it, please e-mail me with any information. Thanks!*

Li'l Tot
Li'l Tot

This pony is named Li'l Tot (Earth pony). She was a special offer in about 1989 for a children's organization. With the purchase (donation to the charity) of every pony, one was also given to an ill child. Li'l Tot is white with dark pink hair, and lavender eyes. She is in the traditional standing pose, as shown. Her symbol is a purple & white doll, blue & white teddy bear, and a blue & white striped ball, though if you look closely at the doll, it can also be interpreted as a paralyzed child, possibly wearing a brace on her leg. She seems to have been the only one offered and not part of a set. I have been indirectly informed that the above info on Li'l Tot is incorrect (I did not know anything about this pony at the time of her release, and the info here is second hand, hense the green text)...I have NOT been directly emailed about this, so anyone who had accurate information on Li'l Tot, please email me with confirmation. Thank you!

Valentine's Day Twins

I heard that these ponies are called Valentine's Day Twins (Earth ponies), but I don't know if each baby pony has her own individual name, though it has been said that they were simply called "White Baby Valentines Pony" and "Purple Baby Valentines My Little Pony". Other possible names are mentioned below. They were not a traditional mail order, as they very only available through a stationary company called Current and never sold through a totally My Little Pony offer.

Valentine's Day Twins

The first is white with curly, bright red hair, and blue eyes. Her symbol is a red heart with a pink & red arch above it. Her name may be Red Rainbow or Rainbow Heart.

The other is purple with pink hair, and pink eyes. Her symbol is a pink heart with a purple arrow going through it. She has a First Tooth. Her name may be Cupid, however that info may have come from a second hand shop, not a Currant or MLP source).

It is believed that they were available anytime from Valentine's Day season 1989 through around the same time as year 8 (approx. 1990). The red & white pony was released first, with the purple & pink pony following a few months later, though it is also believed that the two ponies were sold as a set. Currant also offered other My Little Pony items around this same time, including Dress the Pony Stickers set, Cut-Out Birthday Cards, Lace-Up Cards, Pin the Tail on the Pony Game, and Birthday Gift Wrap and Cards.

Christmas Baby Pony

Christmas Baby Pony

The Christmas Baby Pony (Earth pony) was the third of three holiday Ponies. This one, however, had no name, and could only be ordered from specially marked boxes of Rice Krispies. She is white with red hair, and sea green eyes. She has a dark green stocking as her symbol, in the same style as Stockings, the Holiday Pony, making her look almost like a "Baby Stockings." She was available in Year 9. SEE ALSO: Merry Treat.

Chuck E. Cheese Baby Pony

Chuck E. Cheese Baby Pony

The Chuck E. Cheese Baby Pony (Earth pony) was available exclusively at Chuck E. Cheese restaurants. She cost 400 tickets, or you could use some tickets and pay the difference with cash. She is pink with dark blue hair, and mint green eyes. Her symbol is a white outline of the Chuck E. Cheese mouse and logo. I'm not sure when exactly she was issued, but it is said that she was available in 1989 (approx. Years 8 and possibly 9). She also has a very long mane, which is a trait of late-issue baby ponies. The package she came (shown) in has the later My Little Pony logo (used in years 6 through 10; U.S.).

Pony Llama Friend

Pony Llama Friend

This beautiful llama was originally not part of the My Little Pony family. In 1987 (MLP late year 5), she was part of a Jem Christmas mail offer. Her name was Rama Llama and she was the mascot for Jem and the Holograms. However, in a Canadian ?only MLP mail offer, she was part of a collection that included Baby Pearlized Ponies, Clipper, Baby Sisters, Pretty Mane Ponies, Satin 'n Lace & Coat 'n Tails, Twice As Fancy Baby Ponies, and more. This offer seems to have been available in years 7 and 8 or later. In this offer, she was known only as Pony Llama Friend. According to the description, she was invited to a party with the Little Ponies and has come a long way to join the fun. She is nearly twice the size of an adult pony. She has a pale pink face and legs with purple hooves, and her body is covered with long magenta fur. She has blue eyes and a purple nose. She wears a decorated fringed blanket on her back and came with a purple llama shaped brush (in the Jem offer; the brush may have not been included in the MLP offer).
