I have been a My Little Pony collector since 1983 when I acquired my first pony, Cotton Candy, and age eight (my sister got Butterscotch). I grew up with other 1980s favorites including Strawberry Shortcake (my first collection, that I still have!!), Care Bears, Alvin & the Chipmunks (collecting went years beyond the 80s), Garfield, Rainbow Brite, Heathcliff, and Jem (but never a single Barbie doll!), but My Little Pony was unique with new and different ponies coming out during the next ten years. Unfortunately, like other collectors I've heard from, I never knew anyone with whom I could share my love for these colorful little ponies during those years. But despite that, I enjoyed My Little Pony by writing stories about them, drawing ponies, and of course collecting as many as I could while keeping close track of their every detail to the best of my ability. Currently, my collection which includes over one thousand ponies, accessories, and other related items fill an entire room and continues to expand.
In 1996, I went on the internet (which was a new and scary place back then; still is sometimes!) to see what I could find as far as My Little Pony went, and found only a handful of related pages. I began working on the Dream Valley site with the intention of sharing my knowledge with others who loved My Little Pony just the same but no longer remembered the names of their ponies or enough about their history as they would have liked. When Dream Valley debuted online in January 1997, it was greeted by other MLP fans and collectors, many of whom who said the same thing I did, in that they thought they were the only one! Since then, I've been credited with inspiring others my age to begin collecting ponies again, creating their own MLP-related web sites, and for simply matching the original names to their beloved childhood ponies whether they are rediscovered attic treasures or were lost or sold in yard sales years ago. And with the current My Little Pony line (2003-present) being a direct result of the internet-based resurgence of the popularity of MLP, many fans are also passing their love to their children who will be the next generation of My Little Pony collectors. In return, I have learned about ponies from around the world I never knew existed and have been able to continuously add to my collection and it gives me great pleasure to have helped in creating this community and I will continue to remain active in the years to come.
Aside from My Little Pony, I am equally devoted to my other loves which include my writing in publishing the Oak Branch Woods book series, and also my husband Alan. We share a fondness for animals, including our cat and rabbit. I also enjoy drawing, animé, Star Trek, and just about everything 80s. I have created several other websites including Heartbeat City - a Site about The Cars (my oldest site, founded in 1996 - that's how I met my husband!), We All Live in a Pokémon World... (an essay written in defense of Pokémon), and a site dedicated to my Oak Branch Woods novels, where you can read about the original stories and characters and order the books online.
