Where Can I Find...?

Q.Where can I buy the original (1980's) My Little Ponies?
A.First of all, I don't know where you can buy ponies in any specific parts of the United States or anywhere else since I have never even bought ponies out of state. However, as a general rule, you may be able to find ponies at thrift shops, yard sales, flea markets, antique stores and shows. However, as the demand for 80's ponies had increased, they they are now more likely to be found over the internet (at prices much higher than what you would pay at a yard sale!) on various sites selling collectibles. One of the oldest and most reliable sources for MLP buying/selling/trading is the My Little Pony Trading Post. Please also see my list of site on the MLP Ring of Rainbows since many collector sites also sell ponies. The most common place online for buying/selling/trading ponies is the E-bay Auction Web. When using E-bay, type "My Little Pony" on the "search" page. Note: Dream Valley is NOT a "sale" site. The ponies and accessories listed in any section other than my Sale/Trade page are NOT for sale; pictures are descriptions are from my personal MLP collection and are for informational purposes only.

Q.Where can I purchase Star Catcher (The first pegasus pony from the G3 Friendship Ball collection)?
A.I have been asked this question more than any other concerning a single pony in recent years. To begin, Star Catcher was first issued in 2004 with her introductory video "Dancing in the Clouds", however, her popularity didn't begin to grow until future video releases featuring the first G3 pegasus pony as well as others and Star Catcher became a popular character that fans of the growing series of MLP specials wanted to physically have in their collections. Unfortunately, unlike in the 80s, a pony is very unlikely to still be found on store shelves over two years ago since her release, due to Ebay and other changes in pony collecting/sales. Many collectors have informed me that they tried Ebay for Star Catcher only to find prices well over her initial cost of approx. $10. I have no idea where to find Star Catcher, online or otherwise. I have not seen her in stores since 2004, and I do not follow G3 online sales. You may be able to find info on Star Catcher's availability on a site that specializes in G3 information; some sites are linked here. A new version of Star Catcher was recently released in late 2007-08 (part of the MLP 25th Anniversary collection).

Q.Why was the My Little Pony TV show taken off the air? When and on what channels will it ever air again? Where can I find these My Little Pony/MLP Tales episodes on video/DVD or for download?
A.First of all, I have no idea why My Little Pony is no longer on the air (because based on the frequency of this question, there is certainly a demand for its return!). It has not been on since its run on the Disney Channel ended in the mid-90's. I, personally, do not have the power to air the show, as I (or Dream Valley) am not affiliated with Hasbro or the makers of the MLP TV series. My Little Pony DVD cover A DVD box set of My Little Pony episodes is available as of November 2004:

Titled "My Little Pony: The Complete First Season", this four disc set, released in November 2004, set contains most of the episodes from 1986 (despite the two 1997 ponies pictured on the cover). However, collectors should be aware that the "bonus feature" special (My Little Pony [1984]) is the edited two-part TV version "Rescue at Midnight Castle", being promoted as the pilot episode. "Escape From Catrina" is also the edited two-part version. Also, "The Glass Princess: part 4" is missing the "Hurry" song segment, making it the same edited version as shown on the Disney Channel. Individual discs of many MLP episodes, including all of the 1987 episodes (not on the 4-disc set) are available in the U.S. as of 2006.

Many complete episodes from all the My Little Pony series can be downloaded @ Ringlet's My Little Pony Outer Space Website in .wmv format (including those not yet out on the above DVD box set). Episode clips and MLP commercials are also available for download on this site.

Australia (Region 4; multi-regional player required [may also play in PC]) MLP DVD releases are available @ http://www.itsodd.com which include the 1986 series, MLP: the Movie, and MLP Tales (and be sure to mention Dream Valley when ordering...thanks!)

Older (local/independent) video rental stores may still carry 80's videos, or may be willing to sell these tapes. Among 80's MLP rentals were "My Little Pony" ("Rescue at Midnight Castle"), "Escape from Catrina", "My Little Pony: the Movie", and some of the 1986-87 MLP episodes in a series of Golden Book videos.

Q."Where can I find My Little Pony: the Movie" on video/DVD?
A.As of late 2006, My Little Pony: the Movie is available DVD in the United States (region 1), separately; it is NOT part of the 2004 "My Little Pony: the Complete First Season" DVD collection (see above question). The DVD movie cover is fairly accurate with G1 art, featuring Shady and other ponies on the front and screenshots on the back. I have also heard about video/DVD released in other regions (Europe) over the past few years, usually not featuring the G1 movie artwork (shows G2 or otherwise).

Australia (Region 4; multi-regional player required [may also play in PC]) MLP DVD releases are available @ http://www.itsodd.com which include the 1986 series, MLP: the Movie, and MLP Tales (and be sure to mention Dream Valley when ordering...thanks!)

Q.My little girl wants a My Little Pony themed party. Where can I find MLP party supplies?
A.A set of MLP party supplies is being sold in stores as of Spring 2004 (available in most stores) featuring the 2003-present ponies. Rainbow Dash, Sparkleworks, Sunny Daze, and Pinkie Pie (and recently newer ponies) are featured on paper plates (dinner and dessert size), napkins, plastic tablecloth, hot/cold cups, plastic cups, invitations/thanks-you's, hats, blow-outs, loot bags, and prizes (stickers and bracelets). Some packages also include information on ordering a MLP cake. Hasbro's MLP site now features a page for planning the perfect pony party.

In the 1980's, several sets of MLP party supplies were also made featuring some of the original ponies including Glory (tablecloth, hot/cold cups, plates, napkins, centerpiece), Starshine (hats), Skydancer (*balloon package), Applejack (blow-outs), Moondancer (loot bags, *balloon package), Quackers (sign-in poster), Tic-Tac-Toe (invitations), and Princess Pony (Year 9; tablecloth, loot bags, cups, plates, napkins, blow-outs). Others not listed may have also been produced. These items may be able to be found second hand at ebay.com or other online auctions or second-hand retailers.
*Balloons feature Moondancer, Firefly, and Wavedancer.

Q.Where can I acquire (home-made) replacement wings for Flutter Ponies?
A.Custom-made Flutter Pony replacement wings can be purchased at My Little Customs (thanks, LeAnn!); for another source of homemade wings, you can e-mail Barbara @ peptac2000@hotmail.com (validity of e-mail currently unknown). If you run or know of any other sites that sells Flutter Pony (or Summer/Windy Wing Pony) wings (or contain such links), please e-mail me and I can link your site here.

Q.I have a pony with no tail! Where can I find him or her a new tail? What about cut hair?
A.I would first suggest you just buy another of the same pony who's tail you're trying to replace and give the tail to the one in better condition. For custom mane and tail replacement, please see this question.

Selling & Value...

Q.Is my pony rare and how much is he or she worth?
A.I've noticed that the prices ponies sell for is usually based on the individual that is buying them. Prices also vary based on the pony's rarity and condition. It's hard to say which ponies are rare as that also changes from time to time. Please DO NOT ask me the prices or rarity for each individual pony because I do not keep track of it, nor do I consider Ebay a reliable source for determining a pony's rarity or value. Read more on this topic...

Q.Where can I sell my old (80s) ponies? Do you have any selling tips?
A.To begin, I am NOT an expert on selling second-hand ponies. I personally do not deal in pony sales, and rarely in trading. If you do not have a website (which is ideally the best place to set up your own pony store), you can directly target pony collectors at My Little Pony Trading Post, one of the oldest and most reliable sources for MLP buying/selling/trading. You could also sell your ponies on eBay Auction Web or any number of other online auctions. When posting your ponies/MLP items for sale, be sure to have accurate descriptions including a pony's name, year, and detailed accounts of his/her condition (most info can be found on Dream Valley. I ask that you do not use Dream Valley's photos and to please paraphrase any info used; it is against eBay policy to copy & paste identical text/photos from another site). I am often asked whether to list ponies individually or sell them as a lot; again, I don't have enough expertise to offer advice in the area of selling ponies.

Q.Do you have any ponies for sale or trade?
A.Please read my list of ponies or other MLP items that I have for sale/trade on the site. Note: Dream Valley is NOT a "sale" site. The ponies and accessories listed in any section other than my Sale/Trade page are NOT for sale; pictures are descriptions are from my personal MLP collection and are for informational purposes only.

Q.Should I remove my 2003 ponies from their boxes? How will this affect their value? What about cutting Pony Points?
A.As with all MLP items, new or old, the decision to keep ponies in the packages is usually made with the intent of reselling them, not collecting them, as ponies in boxes will obviously sell for more. But if you plan on keeping and enjoying your ponies forever, don't feel you have to keep them in their boxes. Also, if you'll notice, the many of the new MLP packages allow for a pony to be removed without damaging the box, as collectors want the box in tact but still want to enjoy their ponies outside the package (collectors might keep Easter or Valentine Ponies on the cards so as not to rip the card). As for cutting the Pony Points from the 2003 MLP packages, this is so far the only way to acquire many of the the exclusive MLP items available through mylittlepony.com. To minimize the number of boxes cut, I would advise to cut the points as needed to redeem them, beginning with those having the greatest number value. However, the decision to remove ponies from their packaging (new or old) or cut out points is entirely up to you. Read more on this topic...

Q.Can I use pictures/text from Dream Valley to portray/describe ponies I am auctioning?
A.Aside from my other reason for not wishing the photos from my site to be copied (listed in other FAQ on this page), using pictures of ponies from my personal collection will not provide an accurate portrayal of the ponies your are auctioning or selling. As a seller, it is best to provide your buyers with a photo of the actual items they are bidding on. Also, please paraphrase or write your own descriptions for your auctions. eBay has a policy that prohibits the use of other people's text or pictures without their permission. Please read eBay's policy for more information @ http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/vero-image-text-theft.html. Use of Dream Valley's images or text can and will be reported. Thanks to everyone who has informed both me and eBay about these violations.

My apologies; I hated to do it, and I know it doesn't look that nice, but too many of my photos have been used on Ebay without my permission, and without giving credit to Dream Valley. As you may have already noticed, all photos of ponies and MLP items have now been marked with Dream Valley's URL, including individual ponies (ironically while some sellers can't be bothered with taking their own photos, they often make the effort to alter group photos to use a single pony's picture) to discourage the further use of my personal photos to represent auction items. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Q.How can I redeem the Pony Points from my 2003 MLP packages?
A. Information on how to redeem your points can be found on mylittlepony.com under the Pony Points Program link. There you will find pictures and info for exclusive MLP merchandise and printable order forms. This is, so far, the only way to redeem your points (offers don't come inside MLP packages like they used to in the 80's). Unfortunately, the G3 Pony Points program ended in January 2006.
