From March 27 - April 16, 1998, McDonald's released a nationwide My Little Pony Happy Meal. It was paired with another current Hasbro product, Transformers Beast Wars Transmetals, with three different figures to collect in each set. My Little Pony featured three of the 1997 ponies, about half the size of the original ponies, each with her own special trait. They only have their symbols on the left side of their bodies, and have the "rainbow proof on the hoof".Ivy (#1; March 27 - April 2) is aqua with a pink molded tail. She has a combable pink & purple mane and she is in a rearing pose. Ivy's purple ivy leaf symbols changes to pink when you rub it, and changes back when it gets cool again. Her name is Précieuse in French and Hojitas in Spanish. Light Heart (#3; April 11 - 16) is white with orange/pink/purple hair; her mane is molded, and
her tail is combable. She has several hearts and dots as her symbol, and she's unique because her head turns. Her name is Farceur in French and Corazon Dulce in Spanish. |
Sundance (#2; April 3 - 9) is pink with a purple molded tail and a gold sun symbol. She has a blue (as oppose to yellow) and purple combable mane and her special feature is blue jewel eyes. She's called Soléïa in French and Bailarin in Spanish.The My Little Pony Happy Meals came in bags with My Little Pony on one side and Transformers on the other.One bag has Ivy, Sundance, and Light Heart on it with two activities to do. One is to find the colored flowers in the picture and the other is to find five suns (Sundance's symbol) in the picture. And the other bag has only Ivy and Light Heart on it and the activity (which continues on to the side of the bag) is to find pony faces in the clouds. Also on the side is another activity to find a hidden design in the stars. Both bags have a coupon for $3 off the Pony Garden Playcase.Sometimes, you would be able to acquire the store display that is usually not for sale. It holds the three ponies as well as the three Transformers. Later in 1998, a set of four McDonalds Happy Meal Ponies were released in the U.K. and other countries.

In the U.K., there was a different set of ponies in the McDonald's Happy Meals. It included four ponies (not three), and had several variations from the U.S. ponies. They came out in late 1998.Sun Sparkle is exactly the same as the U.S. Sundance, except that the outline of her eyes is purple instead of black. Her special feature is the same - a blue jewel in her eye.Light Heart is slightly different from the U.S. version. In the U.K., she is the one with the color change symbol (not Ivy). Everything else about her is the same. Her symbol changes from purple to pink (as shown) when you rub it.Ivy is the most different of all. She is standing on all four legs (not rearing like the U.S. version) and her hair is reversed. She had a molded pink & purple mane and a pink combable tail. Her head turns and her purple Ivy symbol does not change color. She also has a sparkle in her eye. She stands on a purple base that is actually a hand mirror and decorated to look like a pond.Sweet Berry was the one pony not sold in the U.S. Happy Meal. She is purple with a dark pink & light pink molded mane and a combable pink tail. Her berry hearts symbol is maroon and her head turns. She stands on an aqua base which is decorated in stone and shell patterns. When Sweetberry is not standing on it, the side of the base doubles as a comb for her tail.
In June 1999, another set of McDonald's ponies was sold in Happy Meals, this time in Denmark. There are four ponies and each come with a large accessory for them to play in. They all have combable manes and tails and a tiny jewels in their eyes.

Princess Star Swirl is the only brand new pony in this set. She is a unicorn with a white body, silver horn, silver & white mane, and silver tail. She does not have a symbol; her body is decorated silver swirl on both sides. She has red jewels in her eyes, but i don't if that is the same color as the original pony. She comes with a purple Fairy Tale Castle with a drawbridge that opens to reveal a picture of Princess Star Swirl.
Sweetberry is in a unique "looking back" pose and looks like the original little pony with a purple body with dark & light pink hair and a light pink tail. Her magenta heart/berries symbol is on both her hips. She comes with a Heart Container with her picture on it. You can keep Sweet Berry or other treasures inside.
Morning Glory is very much like the actual Secret Surprise Friend; she is pink with purple hair. Her blue flowers symbol is only on her left hip and the yellow backpack is molded to her body. She comes with a Carry Case shaped like a house for Morning Glory to live in with a back that opens into a walkway. On the other side is ; a raised picture of Morning Glory looking up into a birdhouse. Sun Sparkle is pink with a yellow & purple mane and purple tail. Her yellow sun symbol is only on her left hip. She comes with a hot air Balloon that she can ride in and step in and out through a swinging door.
