Merry Go Round Ponies seemed like an obvious idea for a long time...unique My Little Pony characters with the classic beauty of a carousel. These special ponies don't have symbols; instead each pony wears a molded decorative cape on her backs and a matching piece on the back of her head. These designs came in three different styles, with different colors, with each design seen on two ponies. The designs are raised giving them a three dimensional effect. All of the Merry Go Round Ponies are Earth Ponies with standard-length manes and tails, and came with a flower brush and hair ribbon.
Sunnybunch is pinkish-purple with (straight) bright green hair, and blue eyes. Her cape is white with pinkish-purple dots, blue trim, and blue roses and other purple (same as body color)/blue/white flowers (w/light green leaves) around the edges. No dots on matching triangle-shaped headpiece.
Flower Bouquet is white with curly pink hair, and periwinkle eyes. Her cape is yellow with white dots, pink trim, and pink roses and other pink/yellow/white flowers (w/sea green leaves) around the edges. No dots on matching triangle-shaped headpiece.
In German, Merry-Go-Round Ponies are called Festtags-Ponys.
Candy Cane Ponies are scented ponies who smell like desserts and treats like their names and symbols. But their most unique feature was their perfect curls (longer manes and standard-length tails) swirled like candy cane stripes which are white plus one other color. They have three big curls in their manes and four in their tails. Each Candy Cane Pony came with a lollipop, ice cream sundae, or ice cream cone barrette, plus a candy comb, and hair ribbon.
Lemon Treats (Earth pony) is yellow with bright green & white hair, and pink eyes. Her symbol is a slice of cake (pink cake & topping/white icing). She came with a purple lollipop barrette.
Molasses (Earth pony) is dark pink with blue & white hair, and blue eyes. Her symbol is one white & blue gingerbread man (even though she is shown with two). Her barrette is a pink sundae.
In Year 6, we had Watercolor Baby Sea Ponies who could change their body and hair color in warm water. In Year 7, the Sunshine Ponies had streaks in their hair that change color in the warm sunlight. In both their (standard-length) manes and tales, the Sunshine Ponies had a special streak of either white or pink hair that could change to magenta (see photo of Sand Digger [white to magenta]; ponies with pink streaks tend to not work as well over time) in the sun and change back under cloudy skies or inside. Their symbols all represented things from the sea or for the beach and cover the entire sides of their bodies. Each Sunshine Pony came with a brush or hairpick.
Sand Digger (Earth Pony) is yellow with (straight) aqua w/white hair, and pink eyes. She has pails, shovels, and sand as her symbol which come in various color combinations of pink, yellow, sea green, and blue.
Shoreline (Earth pony) is purple with (straight) white w/pink hair, and sea green eyes. She has yellow smiling suns wearing sea green sunglasses as her symbol.
The Perfume Puff Ponies were one of the most unique with their poofy hair and bodies scented like the fragrance in their names. Their hair is soft and is puffed out like clouds of sprtized perfume (longer manes and standard-length tails); only their forelock was made up of regular (curly) pony hair. Their symbols are bottles of perfume or other beauty items. Each Perfume Puff Pony came with a barrette with a bird and flower on it or two flowers, flowers hairpick, and hair ribbon.
Dainty Dahlia (Earth pony) is periwinkle with pink hair, and purple eyes. She has an oval-shaped yellow and pink perfume bottle (w/flower design) with an atomizer. She came with a a purple flowers barrette.
Sweet Suds (Earth pony) is pink with blue hair, and sea green eyes. She has a blue bathtub filled with white-outlined sudsy bubbles as her symbol. She came with a purple bird/flower barrette. Another version of Sweet Suds with regular pony hair has been sighted.
Dance 'n Prance Ponies were the first and only ponies who could dance all by themselves. Each pony had a flower-shaped brooch on her chest, and when you wound it up, she could dance and twirl and her tail would spin. Her tail (curly or straight) was shorter than the average pony's tail (mane is standard-length), with a clear tube wrapped around the base; surrounding the base is a colored ring with raised hearts. Dance 'n Prance Ponies came with several accessories so they could look their best on the dance floor including a bow-shaped hair clip with a false piece of hair w/tinsel, earrings (w/jeweled center; in the style of those that came with Pony Wear, ), metallic gold mesh ribbon, bird/flower barrette, faux fur boa (one of three colors), and a brush or comb. Their symbols all had to do with music and their poses were all that of 'looking up' unicorns (like Powder's pose), including the four Earth ponies.
Tap Dancer (Earth pony) is dark purple with curly gold hair, and mint green eyes. Her symbol is a yellowy-gold top hat and cane, and her brooch and tail ring are gold. She came with a pinkish-purple boa, pink clip (w/green hair), and pink earrings (w/green jewels & green dangles).
Swinger (Earth pony) is yellow with (straight) bright green hair, and pink eyes. Her symbol is a pair of dark pink headphones (w/musical notes), and her brooch and tail ring are pink. She came with a white boa, cerulean blue barrette, gold clip (w/blue hair & blue/gold/pink tinsel), and white earrings (w/blue jewels & blue dangles).
In German, Dance 'n Prance Ponies are called Disco-Ponys.
After Princess Ponies and Brush 'n Grow Ponies, the two styles were combined to create Princess Brush 'n Grow Ponies, who had the glamorous hair of a Brush 'n Grow, and the elegant sparkle of a Princess. Princess Brush 'n Grow Ponies have extra-long (well past their hooves), straight, tri-colored manes with tinsel added, plus growing tails (that grew from standard length to almost triple tength). Each pony also has a heart- or teardrop-shaped jewel on her forehead, and a symbol consisting of two striped objects. Each pony also came with two 'I LUV YOU' barrettes, heart-and-dot style brush & comb, and hair ribbon.
Skylark (Earth pony) is sea green with pink/lavender/purple hair (w/fuschia tinsel), and dark purple eyes. She has a purple heart-shaped jewel, and pink & purple birds as her symbol. Her barrettes are pale yellow and medium pink.
Glittering Gem (pegasus) is pink with white/yellow/dark pink hair (w/pink tinsel), and maroon eyes. She has a pink teardrop-shaped jewel, and dark pink & gold hearts as her symbol. Her barrettes and pale blue and pink.
The Loving Family Ponies are three sets of pony parents and babies. Both parents had the same body color and eye color, but with different hair colors and symbols. Combined, their babies were the same body color with twotone hair colors (mothers' color dominant in mane w/father's color as streak; both colors swirled in tail) and a blended symbol (combination of both mother's and father's symbols in random patters). The symbols of both the parents and babies cover the sides of their bodies. was In the US, the Loving Families consisted of Mommy, Daddy, and one one baby; either a boy or a girl, called Baby (family name). All of the Loving Family Ponies are Earth ponies. Mommies and girl babies follow the traditional female pony molds/poses (references given); Daddies are in the Clydesdale style of Big Brother Ponies with molded hair on their hooves (references given); boy babies are made in Clipper's mold (pose), being slightly larger than the average (female) baby pony, and have their mouth slightly open, with "rings" around their hooves. Each set of Loving Family Ponies came with a flower brush & flowers hairpick, and two hair ribbons (though box says three). In other countries, each family had a Mommy, Daddy, and two babies - a boy and a girl called Baby Brother (family name) and Baby Sister (family name). In the UK, the boys wear bow ties around their necks.
The Bright Bouquet family feature a pinkish-lavender body, and blue eyes. Mommy Bright Bouquet has (straight, standard-length) purple hair and her symbol is pink & blue flowers (and pink dots); Daddy Bright Bouquet has (straight, standard-length) blue hair and his symbol is blue hearts w/purple outlines (and blue dots). In the US, they have a baby girl. Baby Bright Bouquet has purple and (straight, standard-length) blue hair, and her symbol is a mixture of pink & blue flowers, blue hearts w/purple outlines, and both pink and blue dots. She is also known as Baby Sister Bright Bouquet, a sibling to Baby Brother Bright Bouquet (see photo below), in the UK. His hair colors (straight, standard-length mane & tail) and symbol are the same as hers, however, the outlines on my Baby Brother Bright Bouquet's hearts are grayer than his sister's. He wears a red bowtie.
The Sweet Celebrations features a pale blue body, and mint green eyes. Their family is the only one with a baby boy in the US. Mommy Sweet Celebrations has (straight, standard-length) pink hair and her symbol is pink balloons w/purple strings and pink & purple confetti; Daddy Sweet Celebrations has (straight, standard-length) deep green hair and his symbol is mint green gift boxes (w/purple ribbons & patterns) and purple & mint green confetti. Baby Sweet Celebrations is a mixture of his parents' colors & symbols with (straight, standard-length) pink & deep green hair, and pink balloons (w/purple strings), mint green gift boxes (w/purple ribbons & patterns), and pink, purple, & green confetti. His sister in the UK, Baby Sister Sweet Celebrations (see photo below), has the same hair colors (straight, standard-length mane & tail) and symbols as her sibling. Baby Brother Sweet Celebrations wears a purple bow tie.
The Apple Delight family features a white body, and pink eyes; and all members of the family have (standard-length) curly hair. Mommy Apple Delight has pale red hair, and her symbol is light red apples (w/sea green stems) and light red hearts in curricular patterns; Daddy Apple Delight has yellow hair, and his symbol is sea green trees (foliage w/gold trunks) and gold dots in diamond-shaped patterns). They have a baby girl in the US. Baby Apple Delight has yellow & pale red hair, and her blended symbol slightly alters that of her parents'; she has apple trees (sea green foliage, gold trunks, light red apples [dots]), light red apples (w/sea green stems), and individual gold dots. In the UK, she is called Baby Sister Apple Delight, with a male sibling, Baby Brother Apple Delight, (see photo below) who has this same hair colors and symbol, and wears a green OR yellow bow tie.
Note that while there are several similarities between the original mail order Sparkle Ponies and the year 7 version, the main difference is that the store-bought version do not have the tiny symbol under their eye. Other differences include body and/or hair color as indicated in Star Hopper and Napper. All of the other ponies' colors are unchanged.
Star Hopper has a bluer body color (in contrast to the original green) and straight yellow hair (as opposed to white), still with gold tinsel. Her eyes are the same pinkish-purple color.
