Beginning on January 28, 2005, a line of eight pony figurines were included in McDonald's Happy Meals. Two ponies were available each week for four weeks, parallel to the boys' Duel Masters collection (although I've seen no MLP commercials, but have seen the one for Duel Masters nearly every day). The ponies are approximately 3 inches tall (a bit smaller than [2003-present] baby ponies) with brushable manes and molded tails. Their colors and symbols are close to the regular little ponies, except for having no highlights/shapes in their eyes, no tinsel in their hair, and some other color variations (noted below). Some ponies stand in the same poses as their little pony counterparts (or at least one version), others are not; some are in reverse poses. Each pony also comes with her own accessory. There was only one bag for both Happy Meals, the MLP half having a large picture of Pinkie Pie and a coloring activity along with good advice to run and play like ponies (presumably to work off all those burgers and fries we've all had to eat for the past four weeks!)

Star Swirl (#1) has a white (non-pearly) body with dark pink hair (no white, though her molded tail is more magenta). She has magenta eyes (not light purple), solid dark pink swirl Cutie Mark (right hip, no silver), and dark pink heart (right hoof). She comes with a dark pink comb with raised stars and a pony in a heart on the handle.
Serendipity (#2) has a pearly pink body with purple hair (her molded tail is more pink). She has light green eyes, light green three-clover (two pink blossoms) Cutie Mark (right hip, no purple outlines), and light green heart (right hoof). She comes with a purple felt purse pink ribbon handles and Serendipity's Cutie Mark on one side.

Minty (#3) has a pearly mint green body with pink hair. She has pinkish-purple eyes, with three magenta swirled mints, two with mint green swirls. The heart on her right hoof is magenta. She comes with a huge dark pink brush with the My Little Pony heart logo (raised) on the back and a raised pony & rainbow design each side of the handle. The pony may be Minty, however, the symbol looks more like three flowers rather than mints.
Butterscotch (#4) has a pearly gold body with pale yellow hair. She has yellow-orange eyes, and her Cutie Mark (left hip) is similar to her regular two lollipop design, only the lollipops are all yellow-orange with red bows and red sticks. Her heart is red and on her left hoof. She comes with a yellow hair scrunchy with her Cutie Mark design all over it.

For some reason ponies #5 and #6 were issued during the second week in some areas.
Daisyjo (#5) has a pearly purple body with yellow hair. She has light green eyes, white two-daisy Cutie Mark (left hip, all outlined in light green [no yellow]), and yellow heart (left hoof). She comes with a yellow basket filled with white daisies.
Pinkie Pie (#6) has a pearly pink body with light pink hair. She has light blue eyes, her same pink-and-blue 3-balloon Cutie Mark (left hip), and blue heart (left hoof). She comes with an enormous pink brush (compared to her size and even the size of a regular pony) with the raised bow design and Pinkie Pie's Cutie Mark on the handle. |
Wysteria (#7) has a pearly pinkish-purple body with pink hair, making her look very different from the original pony, as she is the only pony in this set who went from having multi-colored hair down to one color and not even the most prominent color. She has sea green eyes (unlike the original yellow-green). Her flower Cutie Mark (left hip) is entirely pink as well as her heart (left hoof). She comes with a comb with a raised flower design (Wysteria's symbol).
Sparkleworks (#8) has a pearly orange body with dark pink hair. She has periwinkle blue eyes. Her fireworks Cutie Mark (right hip) is entirely blue and her heart (right hoof) is dark pink. She comes with a huge orange hairpick (compared to her size and even the size of a regular pony) with with a raised pony (no symbol) and rainbow & star design on each side.
In addition to the actual ponies and accessories, it's always interesting to see the various displays used to show the Happy Meal ponies. In most McDonald's, a two-section display that included the eight ponies and corresponding Duel Masters toys was used. Some restaurants also showed a half-and-half poster with the MLP section showing a large picture of the Pinkie Pie figuring. But the biggest one was exclusively used in McDonald's that were inside Wal-Mart stores. This huge cardboard display stands nearly five feet tall and shown a life-size Pinkie Pie holding up a banner announcing "Playtime, Bathtime, Anytime, It's always time for... My Little Pony!" (and she's right!). The display tells of how all your MLP needs can be found at Wal-Mart, including toys, HBA, apparel, party supplies, books, etc. There are two slits in the display over a small photos of the various items, indicating that peel-off flier may have been originally been included. In the upper right corner is Rainbow Dash, floating in a hot-air balloon. This display is a great addition to any My Little Pony collection...as long as you have someplace to put it!  |
