Ponies & Accessories (2003)
INDIGO: info from my personal MLP collection and MLP booklets
GREEN: info provided by other MLP collectors and from pictures
Twenty years after their debut, My Little Pony celebrates its anniversary with a new line of ponies that will bring back childhood memories to collectors as well as introduce the joys of My Little Pony to a new generation. As children of the 80's are looking back to the toys of their past, My Little Pony is one of many favorites that also include Strawberry Shortcake, Care Bears, and He-Man. Unfortunately, the second generation of all of these characters, including My Little Pony, underwent too many drastic changes along with being reissued before we were ready to remember the 80's. The late 1990's Little Ponies lasted less than two years in the United States, leaving ponies released after 1998 for sale only in other countries. Now, in 2003, we're seeing third generations versions of 80's characters that
are more true to the originals we first loved.
The new little ponies, overall, resemble their ancestors in that they
have a similar shape to their face, almond-shaped eyes (though larger and
more detailed, multi-toned with a tiny shape [usually a heart] in the pupil; some are more round while others are more slanted), and chubby legs with rounded hooves. Their bodies are slightly smaller and thinner, yet still with
realistic pony proportions. Their tails and standard length and their manes reach their feet. Each pony also has a symbol to match her name, however, it is only printed on one side of her body (hip, rump, etc); so far the side to which her head is turned. Other noticeable
differences are folded ears, a small heart symbol (though pictured as
two) on one front hoof, and a pink (shades vary) magnetic "My Little Pony" logo insert (that can be used to activate accessories in playsets) also in one front hoof. Like all My Little Pony packages, the new ponies and accessories feature points that can be used for future premium offers.
Eight ponies make up the first set, divided into two sets, though sets are only named in advertisements, not on the packages. Each individually packaged (exceptions noted below) in a clear plastic box with a rope handle and a description of the pony's individual personality and interests (see boxed pony below). Inside, the background image (a colorful outdoor setting) can be removed and combined with other packages to create a Ponyville (home of the new ponies) landscape. Each of these ponies is unique, with her own body and hair color scheme and unique pose. Many have a pearly luster to their bodies, individually noted below. Each comes with brush (with a raised bow design on the back; see close-up below), and a pony charm (translucent, solid-colored w/silver glitter; see close-up below) on a white iridescent 'friendship ribbon'. An insert featuring the complete line My Little Pony line is also included, along with a note from Pinkie Pie inviting MLP fans to see the new My Little Pony film coming to theaters in Fall 2003.
Rainbow Celebration Ponies
Rainbow Celebration Ponies are four of the first six ponies available in stores. While each having the characteristics mentioned above, what makes Rainbow Celebration Ponies unique is their multi-colored hair, and each pony's hair following no particular scheme in color or pattern, making each an individual.
Shy, sweet Wysteria has a pearly pinkish-purple body. Her hair follow a white, pink, purple pattern with a total of twelve vertical streaks. Her tail is a mixture of these three colors. Her eyes are green with a lighter green highlight and pink heart. Rainbow Dash, like her name, loves to ride rainbows; she has a pearly periwinkle blue body. The colors of her hair cascade into a rainbow; the four streaks in her mane are dark pink, coral, gold, and bright green. The rainbow continues into her tail with a mixture of blue and purple, plus dark pink. Her eyes are also rainbow colored, with the main color being light purple with pink, yellow, and light green highlights; the heart is light green. Her symbol (left side) is a rainbow (yellow, light green, blue, pink, purple) with a white (pink-outlined) cloud at each end. Her heart (left hoof) is pinkish-purple). Her brush is light
aqua and her charm is blue-green (darker aqua).
Adventurous Sweetberry has a pearly light magenta body. Her mane is made up of two purple streaks (first and last), two thin white streaks between them, and one aqua streak in the center. Her tail is a mixture of these three colors. Her eyes are aqua with a pale pink highlight and pinkish-purple heart. Her symbol (right side) is a strawberry sprig (two
red berries, green/yellow-outlined leaves, white flower) and her heart (right hoof) is red. Her brush is mauve pink and her charm is dark pink.
Fun-loving Sunny Daze has a white (non-pearly) body. Her mane is five vertical streaks in gold, dark pink, coral, dark pink again, and purple while her tail is a mixture of only dark pink and purple. Her eyes are purple with a lighter purple highlight and orange heart. Her symbol (right side) is a sun with a dark pink & yellow face, orange rays, and purple-outlined wind & cloud. Her heart (right hoof) is orange. Her comb is white and her charm is clear (colorless).
Glitter Celebration Ponies
Glitter Celebration Ponies began as an incomplete set with only two of the four ponies being released at first. The other two were later released as Promo Packs, each with one of two bonus ponies. Glitter Celebration Ponies sparkle with strands of iridescent (multi-tonal) tinsel in their hair, adding to the other characteristics mentioned above.
Quiet, busy Kimono has a pearly mauve pink body and dark purple hair. Her eyes are green with a light green highlight and pink heart. Her symbol (right hip) is two yellow Japanese lanterns (w/purple outlines & flowers) and her heart (right hoof) is yellow. Her brush is pinkish-purple and her charm is magenta.
Silly, sock-collecting Minty is has a pearly mint green body and pink hair with thin white streaks. Her symbol (right side) three round mints (swirls of deep red, white, and sea green) and the heart (right hoof) is deep red. Her eyes are purple with a dark pink highlight and pink dot. Her brush is mint green and her charm is also mint green (darker). Minty was one of two ponies only available as part of a Promo Pack.
Pinkie Pie is younger than the other ponies; she has a pearly medium pink body. Her hair is pink with iridescent tinsel. Her eyes are blue with a periwinkle highlight and pink heart. Her symbol (left side) is three yellow & blue balloons with confetti and her heart (left hoof) is blue. Her brush is medium pink and her charm is dark pink (deeper color than Sweetberry's charm).
Sparkleworks enjoys hot-air balloon rides! She has an pearly orange body with dark pink hair. Her symbol (left side) is exploding fireworks: white stars surrounded by deep red, yellow, and blue designs to show to illustrate shooting, exploding, and falling. Her heart (left hoof) is deep red. She has cornflower blue eyes with a sea green highlight and a pink star. Her brush is light orange and her charm is orange. Sparkleworks' box makes reference to her "Cutie Mark", the new name for a pony's hip symbol. Sparkleworks was one of two ponies only available as part of a Promo Pack.
(Promo Packs: Bonus Ponies)
Shortly after the release of the first few ponies in the 2003 MLP collection, Glitter Celebration Ponies Minty and Sparkleworks could complete your set, complete with an extra pony, costing the same as a single pony (approx: $4.77-$5.99 US). So far believed to be sold only in some KB Toy Store and Wal-Mart locations, promo packs came with combinations that include Minty or Sparkleworks, plus one of three bonus ponies (which means that collectors would end up having to purchase two of the Glitter Celebration Ponies to acquire all three bonus ponies).
The bonus ponies do not come with any accessories. Autumn Skye and Star Swirl (KB ponies) are only pictured and mentioned on each other's boxes, while Butterscotch's (Wal-Mart pony) box shows Razzaroo with her.
The pony who stays up late, Star Swirl has a white (non-pearly) body. She has dark pink hair with white streaks (two in mane; one in tail) and iridescent tinsel. Her symbol (right side) is a swirl (deep red lines create pattern) of tiny silver stars (some outlined in deep red). Her heart (right hoof) is deep red. She has purple eyes with a blue highlight and silver star.
Nature lover Autumn Skye is a pearly pale blue body. Her hair is pale yellow with streaks of gold and coral (mixed; two in mane; one in tail). Her symbol (left side) is a group of three different leaves in colors of orange, gold, and yellow (alternate vein colors). Her heart (left hoof) is gold. She has cornflower blue eyes with a turquoise highlight and gold heart.
Butterscotch enjoys holding onto and sharing memories. She has a pearly gold body and pale yellow hair with iridescent tinsel. Her symbol (left side) is a two gold & white swirled lollipops with green sticks and deep red ribbons. Her heart (right hoof) is deep red. She has a dark gold eyes with a lighter gold highlight and red heart.

Appropriately named to celebrate the long-awaited return of My Little Pony, the Celebration Castle is filled with fun and excitement for ponies and collectors. This large, multi-part playset has purple walls and towers, edged with white window frames and dark pink frames. The castle can be closed for store or opened for play, and comes with a special baby pony to share the fun. The front of the castle begins with a large, detachable moat (green base) with pink & purple steps that lead to a yellow center. This becomes a rest for the drawbridge when open. When closed, you can see the raised design on the magenta drawbridge's outside the shows two ponies dancing together (a mirror is on the other side). It opens by being pushed from the inside and closed with a lever (also inside). The doorway is surrounded by a pink stone-look wall, yellow pillars, and a rainbow that arches above the door with a cloud on each end. All of these design features have a glittery coating and the rainbow has white stars, and three larger, clear stars that light up them music is played inside. Above the front side is an attached pink arch. A smaller pink heart attaches to the top of the back of the castle. There is a large window with a pink balcony, surrounded by several windows. In the center of the castle is a yellow platform; with a pony touches the pink year with her magnetic hoof, the stars light up on the side and outside, and the castle plays two different songs - one of which is the original My Little Pony theme (instrumental), bringing the generations of My Little Pony full circle back to the 80's. There's also a pink spinning disk than can be placed on either this platform, or in either turret that
a pony can securely stand on with her magnetic hoof and twirl around.
Pink Sunsparkle is the name of the baby pony who lives in the Celebration Castle. Later in 2003, the Celebration Castle was repacked to not show the playset through a window in the box, but rather to show a photos on the front and back of it set up with ponies playing inside. The castle also later came with an extra baby pony called Baby Romperooni, who was originally packaged with Rainbow Flash.
